Abortion Information

What is an abortion?

An abortion is a medical procedure to terminate a pregnancy. While the procedure varies with every individual based on their personal medical situation and history, most commonly abortions are done either by surgery or medication (commonly known as the abortion pill). At Northland Family Planning’s Michigan abortion clinics, we make sure each patient is informed about all options available so that we can help you make the best decision for you.

Why is abortion so important?

Abortion is an essential part of reproductive healthcare. The ability to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is fundamental to our ability to plan when, where, and how we start a family. Abortion gives us control over our individual bodies and futures.

Is abortion legal in Michigan?

Yes! In 2022, Michiganders voted to add the Reproductive Freedom for All Amendment to our state constitution. This amendment guarantees the right to abortion in the state of Michigan. However, current law requires patients receive state-directed counseling and print a form no less than 24 hours prior to their appointment. This form can also be provided in person from one of our abortion clinics 24 hours prior to your appointment. Additionally, minors must have parental or judicial consent before receiving an abortion. While these restrictions can be confusing, Northland Family Planning is a Michigan abortion clinic dedicated to answering your questions every step of the way. Please do not hesitate to contact us for assistance.
