Planned Parenthood of Michigan has announced that they will be closing three Michigan abortion clinics; Marquette, Petosky, and Jackson, Michigan. This downsizing will leave Michigan’s Upper Peninsula without a single abortion clinic.
Why is this happening?
Donald Trump has announced that his administration will be cutting millions of dollars from Title X funding – the nation’s only federal funding for family planning services. This money is used for services such as birth control, STI testing, and pregnancy testing for low income patients. Due to these funding cuts, Planned Parenthood of Michigan is being forced to downsize.
While abortion is legal in Michigan, patients seeking care in the Upper Peninsula will no longer have reasonable access to a clinic. For example, the closest abortion clinic to Marquette, Michigan is in Milwaukee, Wisconsin – a five and a half hour drive one way.
When we say “legal does not mean accessible,” this is what we mean. Our communities need abortion clinics.
We Can Help.
Northland Family Planning can help. For patients living too far to visit us in person, we offer compassionate, quality, telehealth abortion pill services. Our physicians are not only experts in abortion care but are also here for your follow-up care should you need it. We offer discreet shipping of the abortion pill by mail quickly after your virtual visit with our team.
Scheduling An Appointment:
Our telehealth abortion clinic appointments are easy, affordable and confidential with minimal steps. After you schedule the appointment:
- You will complete a brief screening process online
- You will complete a short virtual video chat with one of our patient care staff who will explain the medication abortion instructions and process.
- Your FDA-approved abortion medications will be discreetly delivered from a licensed pharmacy to your Michigan mailing address in 1-2 days via FedEx.
Eligibility:
- Must be less than 11 weeks pregnant
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must not have a history of ectopic (tubal) pregnancy or any complications from the medication abortion pill
- Must have a Michigan mailing address for the medication delivery
We make every effort to keep this process as simple as possible. If you have questions or would like to schedule a virtual abortion clinic visit for the abortion pill by mail, please give us a call during business hours at 1-800-447-7354 and one of our phone advocates will be happy to assist you. If it is outside business hours, you can request an appointment HERE.
Fees:
The fee for our telehealth abortion pill service includes the medications, consultation with our patient care staff, as well as a follow-up pregnancy test mailed with your medications.
This service is provided at a discounted cost. Therefore, if additional visits are needed, there will be a fee charged.
If you are struggling to afford your abortion, we have funding resources available for those who need it, just as we do for our in-clinic patient care.
We understand that telehealth abortion pill services do not replace brick and mortar clinics. While we are proud to provide the abortion pill by mail to those without any other option – we are also continuing the fight for accessible abortion care in Michigan. Whether you live in Marquette or Detroit, your community deserves access to abortion clinics.
