Thanks to ballot initiatives, abortion is legal in Ohio and Michigan. However, that does not mean both states have equally accessible abortion care. There are many factors to consider when deciding if you should have an abortion in Michigan or Ohio.
1. Do Clinics Near You Offer The Care You Need?
Not all abortion clinics in Ohio provide the same care. For example, Toledo’s only abortion clinic is only able to provide the abortion pill. While the abortion pill is a safe and effective way to terminate a pregnancy, it can only be taken in the first eleven weeks of pregnancy. Patients seeking an abortion clinic in Toledo who are further into their pregnancy or need a surgical abortion may then be forced to travel for care. Depending on where you’re located within Ohio, our Michigan clinics may be closer to you than your nearest Ohio abortion clinic.
All three of Northland Family Planning’s metro Detroit abortion clinics are able to provide second trimester abortion care. Depending on your location, we may be closer than your nearest Ohio abortion clinic.
2. Can You Accommodate Ohio’s 24 Hour Waiting Period?
Patients seeking an abortion in Ohio must wait 24 hours to receive care, requiring two separate visits. This can be burdensome when arranging time off work and travel. In Michigan, patients do not need to endure any waiting period. If you travel to Michigan for your abortion, you can have your procedure the exact same day.
3. You Want Quality, Expert Care
