What is the current legal status of abortion in Michigan?
In 2022, Michiganders voted to add the Reproductive Freedom for All Amendment to our state constitution. This amendment guarantees the legal right to abortion in the state of Michigan. However, current law requires patients receive state-directed counseling and print a form no less than 24 hours prior to their appointment. This form can also be provided in person from one of our clinics 24 hours prior to your appointment. Additionally, minors must have parental or judicial consent before receiving an abortion. While these restrictions can be confusing, Northland Family Planning is an abortion clinic dedicated to answering your questions every step of the way. Please do not hesitate to contact us for assistance.
Who is allowed to provide abortions?
Abortion clinics and providers are licensed and regulated by the state. Michigan abortion clinics are required to follow safety standards and regulations established by the Department of Health and Human Services. Due to rigorous attacks from the anti-abortion movement, abortion clinics are often held to even higher standards than other medical clinics. Northland Family Planning’s abortion doctors are fully trained and licensed physicians. At Northland Family Planning, patients are our priority. We provide detailed information about the procedure before performing an abortion. After the procedure, we encourage patients to remain in contact with us for any questions or concerns.
How much does an abortion cost?
The cost of an abortion will depend on each individual’s circumstances. Whether you are seeking the abortion pill/medical abortion or surgical abortion, the cost can vary. We understand that with an unplanned pregnancy comes unplanned costs, which is why all three of our Detroit abortion clinics strive to offer financial assistance.
This is where abortion funds come in. Northland Family Planning is proud to partner with Reclaim, a local Michigan abortion fund working to help any patient in need. We believe cost should never be a barrier to healthcare. If you are struggling to afford an abortion procedure, we can help.
