At Home Abortions

CONSIDERING AN AT HOME ABORTION?

Since former President Trump was able to place three extreme right-wing judges on the Supreme Court of the United States, the legality of abortion has become extremely fragile.  The newest justices are extremely anti-abortion and are seeking to topple abortion rights and access, along with the already-seated conservative justices.  Many states are introducing new legislation that the Supreme Court is looking to use as the catalyst to undo the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that guarantees the right to an abortion.  WE want you to know at this time, ABORTION IS STILL LEGAL. And Northland is here to provide compassionate, safe abortion care with the dignity and respect you deserve. We are here for you.

AT HOME ABORTIONS: HOME “REMEDIES”, ABORTION PILLS, AND CRIMINALIZATION OF SELF-ABORTION

More and more, politicians and anti-choice laws are standing in the way of clear access to safe, affordable methods of abortion care. Because of this, we are hearing of people trying methods that may be ineffective due to your length of pregnancy.  We know that some people are attempting to buy pills online to end their pregnancies; however, when you buy pills from the Internet you do not know what you are really getting. While rare, if you experience an ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy in which the fertilized egg implants outside the uterus) and it is not properly diagnosed and treated by a physician, it could be life-threatening.

There are also reports about people taking vitamins, herbs, supplements, spices, and foods that may be taken to end a pregnancy at home. These remedies have not been proven to be safe and effective by medical experts, and can delay your access to effective early abortion. When these “solutions” fail to work, some at home remedies can cause severe bleeding or other potentially serious complications, and never end a pregnancy.

If you are searching for abortion pills online to buy, we want to remind you: Our clinics offer safe, compassionate, and confidential care and financial assistance is available for those who qualify. The abortion pill, prescribed by a physician, is a safe way to have a self-managed abortion at home. It may be in your best interest to be seen by a physician who is an expert in abortion care.

CRIMINALIZATION OF ABORTION

Please note that currently no criminal laws for self-induced abortion exist in Michigan.  Unfortunately they do exist in many other states.  Pregnant people have been questioned by authorities, treated as criminals, arrested, prosecuted and put in prison.  We strongly support overturning laws around the country that allow for this type of criminalization.  We're fighting alongside the groups and organizations whose focus is to fight these laws and are working to get those unjustly jailed released.  If you live in a state other than Michigan and are considering self-abortion, we urge you to check the laws in your state

Northland Family Planning is in this fight because we are seeing pregnant people being prosecuted in some states for what is seen by some as a "suspicious" miscarriage or when someone tries to self-induce miscarriage.  It is unconscionable that pregnant people are being sent to jail and losing their constitutional and human rights as a result of pregnancy.  For more information about the organizations fighting for justice, see National Advocates for Pregnant Women.
