What are Plan B side effects?

Side effects from Plan B, and other emergency contraception methods, are minimal when taken as directed. Some people may experience side effects similar to those of many birth control pills, including a heavier or lighter next period. There could be a little bit of nausea or fatigue, a slight headache, or breast tenderness.

People who experience any of the following symptoms while taking the morning after pill should call their doctor or Northland Family Planning Center immediately:

  • Severe abdominal pains
  • Chest pain or shortness of breath
  • Sharp headaches
  • Eye problems, such as blurred vision
  • Severe leg or arm pain or numbness
